Citrix for everything? Yes, I've seen it.

Intranet apps may have been upgraded in the intervening time period, but they could always be incremental updates taht keep the app running without making it IE7/8 compatible - that could be a whole other project which awaits a larger roll-out. Depending on the size of the apps/company/userbase it may make sense on some level, even if it looks odd to end-users.

What can we infer about shops that haven't bothered to upgrade their intranet apps since before 2006?

Definitely check out Chrome. Now that extensions are starting to come out things are getting very interesting!

Ah yes, Citrix. I knew this. I used to use Citrix to access a single internal application, but nothing else. I wonder whether there are instances where employees use Citrix to access everything they use work-wise..?

IE6 = default in shops that haven't upgraded their intranet apps to newer browsers. Or they're just crazy.

I'll have to check out the newest in Chrome - haven't experienced those features yet so I didn't see what the fuss was about. :)

Regarding virtual machines - use of Citrix is HUGE in a lot of companies... not necessarily for the reasons cited above, but yeah, many companies are into that.

I'm pretty much exclusive to Chrome/Chromium now. The latest version includes bookmark syncing via Google Docs, which is pretty cool.

I can't use internet explorer. I always use firefox. And then I download a ton of addons - delicious, twitter, stumbleupon, gmail plugin, cooliris etc. Otherwise, there's no point in going online.
